Welcome to the life of Vanessa the Violinist! I am really excited to start my journey blogging about all things to do with the violin and music.
I am currently a final year student studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, working towards a career as a violinist. I am a passionate player and enjoy performing in all capacities. I am also dedicated to inspiring the next generation of musicians, showing them the joy of playing.
Outside of my violin life, I enjoy singing in choirs and spending quality time with family and friends. I am a crazy dog lover and when I am not studying or playing, I enjoy looking after my two dogs Carlotta and Mimi who I am sure will make an appearance in some of my posts. I love travelling and exploring different cultures. I come from a multinational background; I was born in Germany and lived there until I was eight years old and I am a dual citizen of both the UK and Canada.
I've decided to start blogging about my violin journey for various reasons. Of course, I'd love to show people what I am doing on a regular basis: the concerts I am working towards, collaborative projects with other musicians, my practice routines and more. But I also wanted to share some of my stories about how having a passion isn't always a walk in the park. I hope to give some insights into the struggles musicians face (some more than others) and how to manage all the negativity into positive thoughts.
I am not the most outgoing person, I have struggled with many negative thoughts which have sometimes got the best of me and there have been times where I thought what is the point in following through, even though I knew I would be miserable as I couldn't imagine myself not playing the violin. Going through school and music conservatoire has not been an easy ride, I have had to face some very difficult challenges and combat many of my biggest fears. Being a musician is really tough, to have a passion for something so personal that you want to share to the rest of the world, and for some people who just don't quite believe in themselves this is a very hard task to achieve. I hope I will be able to reach out to you and assure you that you're not alone.
Having made it to my final year of music conservatoire, I am starting to explore options in the wider world. I couldn't be happier in myself, my abilities as a violinist and the people that surround me everyday that keep my passion and playing alive. It's ok to feel down about yourself and your abilities, it can happen to anyone. However, it is not worth letting your dream slip through your fingertips from low self-esteem or negative thoughts. I strongly believe that as long as you're happy with where you're at then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Stay positive and keep believing in yourself.
If you ever want any advice or need a listener I am always happy to hear your voice.
